3-Dimensional Learning

MI embraces a 3-dimensional approach to the intelligent design of our self-assessments, courses and learning plan. Because every MI assessment and course includes complex risk management and patient safety insights, each layer of our strategic framework of learning is dependent upon how a learner responds.

Learner responses are captured to show 3 dimensions of their understanding of the subject matter.

Based on learner responses, the learning management system prioritizes the learning plan and recommends courses to specifically address identified gaps in risk and patient safety knowledge.

The 3 dimensions of the MI learning experience are:

Content Accuracy

The first layer of our educational experience is an assessment of a learners understating of course subject matter.  Learners will answer questions throughout each course, resulting in the collection of responses that can either be correct or incorrect.

Conceptual Comprehension

The next layer of learning pinpoints gaps in learner understanding of core medical risk-related concepts including cognition, communication, performance, professionalism, and system errors.  Answers to questions throughout out each assessment will result in a percentage-based rating of comprehension.

Risk Severity

The final layer of our learning experience is an automated prioritization of high-, moderate-, and low –risks to further focus the path for the individual learner. Risk levels are assigned to each assessment question following hard classification guidelines established by national patient safety organizations.
